A new year has begun and with that a new and exciting outlook for the Republican Party. The next two years promise to be critical for us with regard to the national, state and local legislative races. We have a great chance to succeed on all levels.
We have highly qualified, intelligent and resourceful individuals who are vying for high level political offices. On the local front I am excited by the prospect of my good friend Legislator Frank Sparaco’s candidacy for the 94th Assembly District. He is the epitome of Republicanism, a man with true integrity and values that the people of Rockland have come to appreciate. He along with the Honorable Senator Tom Morahan will carry our banner in this year’s election.
I have also had the pleasure of being part of the screening process for potential candidates for the 17th and 18th Congressional Districts. In years past the party would have to scour the State to find individuals who would consider running for such high political offices but this year with the national wave pushing our way highly accomplished, articulate, distinguished candidates are vigorously campaigning for the Republican nomination. This is such a breath of fresh air. Whether it is what the democrats are doing wrong or what we are doing right or a combination of both we must take full advantage now!
I have also reached out to all committee-people to ascertain who might be interested in becoming a Rockland County Legislator. As you know there are five legislative seats in Clarkstown including Legislative Districts 5, 9, 10, 11 and 14. LD’s 5, 9, and 11 are already being occupied by our Party’s representatives, although Gerald Bierker of LD 9 is retiring, Legislator Frank Sparaco of LD 11, as mentioned above, is running for the 94th Assembly District seat, and LD 5 is securely occupied by our own Ed Day.
I am pleased to announce that we have screened high quality individuals who have submitted letters of intent to become potential candidates for LD’s 9, 10, 11 and 14. Although the election for these seats is not until 2011 I believe it is essential to begin early in order to give those individuals who are considered the front running candidates the advantage of developing their committees, begin their fundraising and establish their platforms.
Your work as committee-people is just beginning. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a unified cohesive team effort. Your contributions is what will help the Party prevail in its’ mission to ultimately restore sanity in government and improved quality of life in Rockland County.
Come to our Town Meetings the last Wednesday of each month, carry petitions for your candidates and yourselves this year, participate on campaign committees, make phone calls, disseminate literature, come to a fundraiser and most of all carry the torch for the Republican Party. Let’s remember who we are and what we stand for – we are truly “the Party of the people, by the people, for the people.”

Republican Principles
I'm a Republican Because...
I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored. I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability. I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity. I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn. I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least. I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people. I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times. I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.
FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
